BowTieXP tutorial: Barrier Effectiveness
This is a tutorial to explain how you can attach an effectiveness value to a Barrier in BowTieXP.
Rating the effectiveness of a Barrier
Step 1: Double click on a Barrier in BowTieXP
Step 2: Choose an effectiveness value from the Effectiveness dropdown and click OK.
Step 3: To display the Effectiveness value, go to Diagram > Display options or press Ctrl+Shift+A. At Extra information on diagram shapes (to the right), expand the Barrier heading and select the Effectiveness (see screenshot). L stands for Long format, S stands for Short format.
Step 4: To also change the color of the Barrier, go to the Display options window (see previous step) and go the the Colors tab. There, you can expand the Barrier heading again and select Effectiveness to color the barriers by effectiveness.
Changing the Effectiveness categories
You might have a different effectiveness scale than what is in BowTieXP on default. Follow these steps to change the effectiveness rating.
Step 1: Go to the Treeview window on the left.
Step 2: Expand the Lookup tables
Step 3: Find the heading called Effectivenesses (this is where your Effectiveness scale is defined)
Step 4: Right click on Effectivenesses and click New to add a new category.
Step 5: Fill in the Code and Name. Optionally, you can also change the color. Click OK.
Step 6: To edit or delete an effectiveness category, right click it and press either Edit or Delete.
TIP 1: You can also double click an effectiveness category to edit it.
TIP 2: Drag an effectiveness category from the Treeview on a Barrier to assign that value.
